Waiting at the Regency
She sat at a table alone but couldn't have seemed less alone. He sat with other people but seemed quite alone. Both perfectly happy, one boisterous, one quiet. And then afterward, in the lobby, searching for common ground:
He: I'm a musician, too.
She: Really? What do you play?
He: Right now I'm music director for Prairie Home Companion.
She: For what?
He: Prairie Home Companion, with Garrison Keillor... ?
She (brightly, shaking her head): Oh, I've been on jury duty.
SarahB to me: We need to wait outside.
