When to let go

The #1 recommended strategy to help alleviate an allergy to dust mites is to lock down the bedroom:  encase the mattress and pillows in allergan-proof covers, remove carpeting, vacuum regularly, and eliminate clutter ("if it collects dust, it also collects dust mites"). Great news for someone who lives in a studio apartment that is by definition also a bedroom that happens to be cluttered with approximately 8,000 books.

Not to mention a 35-year-old frail, useless, dust-collecting dog.
