Summer of Sondheim
Not only is Stephen Sondheim the toast of Ravinia every summer, now he's also going to be feted in Chicago's Millennium Park.
Slated for the entire weekend of July 14-16, "Sondheim in the Park" (which might better be titled "Sunday in the Park With Stephen") will feature major concerts of Sondheim works under the baton of Kevin Stites, the noted Broadway musical director.
The work of the much-loved Broadway composer and lyricist not only will be played by the Grant Park Orchestra in the Jay Pritzker Pavilion (selections and guest soloists are yet to be announced), but Sondheim also will be performed, for free, throughout the park, including on various patios, balconies and in the Lurie Garden.— Chicago Tribune
It's a good, good, good time to be a fanatic.
