NYC: Patti does torch tonight
Tony and Olivier Award winning actress-singer Patti LuPone, currently starring to critical acclaim in the hit Broadway production of Sweeney Todd, will return to the Vivian Beaumont Theater (150 W 65 Street), to perform a special one-night only concert of her critically acclaimed one-woman show "The Lady With The Torch" on Monday, May 22 at 8 PM to benefit Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS.
The concert will help celebrate the launch of her new CD "The Lady With The Torch," which was released on April 25 on Ghostlight Records.
Look at me! Due back at Lincoln Center for the third time in four days (to be followed by The Light in the Piazza tomorrow night on the very same stage). I'm on the fence with this one: not a lover of the torch songs, and I think Patti's best put to use in a live performance when she's playing a character who isn't Patti. But hey, it's Patti, so I gotta go. Afterwards: some kind of alleged meet & greet. But as Bob and I know all too well from the Great Urban Gateways Misfire of '04, sometimes these alleged meets & greets don't quite pan out as promised.
Stay tuned, yo...
